About Thomas Otten

Thomas Otten with chin resting on handThomas Otten lives in Northern France. He is a countertenor singer with a unique and extraordinary style.

Prior to finding his musical vocation Thomas worked as a biologist. He discovered his voice and musical talent quite late in life when he developed an interest in chamber music. He studied for a diploma in lyrical song at the Conservatoire National de Région (CNR) in Lille followed by further studies in early music at the CNR in Paris. It was then that he decided to make a complete career change and leave his job to become a professional singer.

He joined several prestigious musical ensembles including Sagittarius, Akadêmia and Le Parlement de Musique, whilst continuing to develop his own musical style.

When highly talented composer Frédéric Momont met Thomas he felt that Otten's vocals would suit perfectly the type of classical crossover music he wanted to work on. This unique collaboration resulted in two ground-breaking albums, Close to Silence and Portraits, both originally released on the Virgin Music record label. The albums are now represented for the world by Strathan Music. They are available to buy in digital download format.

In addition to his singing Thomas also provides voice training and music therapy for rehabilitation and personal development.

During the summer of 2010 Frédéric Momont asked Thomas, and soprano vocalist Stéphanie Arcadias, to provide vocals on some of his new songs. The new recordings, plus three that were recorded previously, were released as a digital album, 'The Two Voices', on 22 August 2011.
